FHODS

FHODS IS SHORT FOR THE "FOLKESTONE AND HYTHE OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY"

The history of FHODS can be traced back to before the First World War, but it was not until 1965 that the society found it's permanent home in a little place in the south of England called Sandgate (between Folkestone & Hythe-hence the name). The building in which we put on our shows to the general public used to be a church but was converted into a fully equipped theatre and opened in 1966.

As an amateur group we put on several plays in our little theatre though out the year and once a year we do a Pantomime at another local theatre "The Leas Cliff Hall". This is usually the biggest production of the year and all the usual members brush of their clobber and come out of the closet each time.

The pantomime is great fun and runs for three weeks in early January, with the average run being about three weeks long. The "leas cliff hall" is used as a venue for our summer musicals as well.

There is a youth section as well as an adult section. We usually work on productions independently but every now and then we team together, the most regular team-up being the annual pantomime.
